A Certificate to Reward Positive Practice in Personality Disorder was handed to staff on a ward looking after one of their patients.
Reading this article just had my blood bubbling and the more I read it the angrier I get. I’m pleased this patient was looked after but this article just shows there is still a clear divide between treating physical and mental health. “Ward staff were able to treat her for her physical problems, all while compassionately taking her mental health problems into account“. The staff took the patients “mental health problems into account”. There is something very clearly wrong in that statement. Newsflash people, mental health is NOT a problem, it’s an illness!!!! The same as physical ailments are not problems but illnesses! Why are staff working on a ward being awarded a certificate for providing a service that should have been provided regardless.
“It was way above and beyond what you might expect on a ward that cares for people’s physical health problems, given the complexity of her difficulties.” Oh my word im fuming (am I hiding it well)?!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad the lady was well looked after but to make a big song and dance about how they looked after her mental health as well as her physical health…. Am I the only one who sees a problem with this?
I just can’t say anymore just now…..
